Greek Food Tasting - 17 June 2019
On Friday we discussed some popular Greek dishes. We then tried some of these foods including feta cheese, olives, tzatziki, figs and apricots. Not everyone enjoyed the new tastes but nearly everyone in the class tried something they had never eaten before!
The Greek Legacy - Summer 2 7-6-19
This half term our ILP is called the Greek Legacy. We have discussed this week that in Ancient Greece they had a democracy and art, mathematics and sporting events such as the Olympics have shaped our world today.
We have also started to look at the roles of men, women and slaves in Athens over 2000 years ago and considered whether we think we're better off now or then!
Next week is test week for year 4. Please eat breakfast and come to school on time and be ready to show Mrs Sheldrick what you can do! Have a lovely weekend
A couple of weeks ago we had a visit from some fire fighters giving us some advice on how to stay safe in our homes. Also, we learnt that we should be testing our smoke alarms once a week to ensure that it will work properly if there does happen to be a fire- good advice. Let's make sure we follow it!
Welcome back to a 'Shocking' term!
As part of our 'It's Shocking' project this term we are learning about electricity. As you can see this week we have been making our own simple circuits to light a bulb!
Our Playlist Fab Finish- playing our instruments with 4C!

World Down Syndrome Day - 21st March
To raise awareness of Down Syndrome we discussed uniqueness and designed our own 'unique' socks.
World Book Day - 7th March
Fantastic outfits today for World Book Day! Year 4 really enjoyed their share a story time in the hall with parents too.
4S welcomes Rosie back to their class!
Goodbye Blue Abyss, Hello Playlist!
To finish off our topic, we had a trip this week to Birmingham Sea Life Centre. It was a wonderful end to the half term and everyone had a good time. I think the highlights for the children were seeing the penguins race around their tank and of course the 4D cinema which squirted us all with water! We have also celebrated our homework achievements - well done to those who achieved their 10 stars and received a reward. We also had fun this week playing the chidlren's own ocean inspired board games.
Homework grids for our next topic 'Playlist' have been sent home. Mrs Sheldrick is looking forward to more children receiving their 10 stars!
Have a lovely half term break 4S!
Recycling in aid of charity...
The might look like painted water bottles at the moment but before next Thursday they will be transformed into a fabulous flower decoration for the garden or inside plant pot! 4S are hoping to raise lots of money for SSAFA at our garden fete on Thursday 14th February at 2:45pm.
(Unfortunately, Mrs Sheldrick forgot to hand out the letters about the fete today, sorry 4S parents! Further details will be sent home on Monday).
Class Assembly - Here we are waiting for our audience!
Well done to 4S on our class assembly! I have received wonderful comments all day from teachers and chidlren who thought you were all fantastic!
Class assembly - next Friday!
A reminder that it is 4S' class assembly next Friday 25th January. Here is a sneaky peak at one of the props which Mrs Sheldrick and Jigsaw Jaz are working on afterschool tonight!
The Blue Abyss
This half term our Imaginative Learning Project is called The Blue Abyss. We have discussed some questions we want to find the answers to and have already learnt the answers to some! This week we have learnt about the layers of the ocean and started some science work looking at the properties of solids, liquids and gases.

Vicious Vikings! (9.11.18)
Vicious Vikings is the name of our Imaginative Learning Project for this half term. We have already had a number of children bringing some of their homework projects in, what a super start! Remember this half term you have a choice of which pieces of work you do but you need to collect 10 stars by the end of term. I can't wait to see more Viking longboats made from pieces of junk!
Our fabulous visit to Botanical Gardens! (26.10.18)
To finish our Call of The Wild topic we visited the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to learn a little more about the rainforest and touch some rainforest creatures which live there! We visited the tropical house which was very humid and saw some of the magnificent plants which grow in tropical climates. these included lots of foods like coffee, sugar cane and cocoa!
Where have all the woodlice gone? (19.10.18)
In science this week we set up an investigation to find out which conditions a woodlice likes the best - dark or light? wet or dry?
Unfortunately, we couldn't find many woodlice! Where had they gone? At last, we found a couple so the investigation could be done! Back in class, we watched the woodlice in the trays and we found that after half an hour the woodlouse had settled in the dark half of the tray while the second woodlice preferred the dry side than the wet.
Jigsaw lesson - who can make the tallest tower?! (12.10.18)
In our Jigsaw lesson this week we were discussing how decisions are made. Some 'observers' saw how decisions are also made within the class when groups were given the task of building the tallest tower. Would they vote on each decision or would one person emerge as a leader of the group?
School Council candidates give their speeches! Good luck everyone!
Negative number lines in Maths!
This week in Maths we have been counting backwards through zero learning our negative numbers. Above are a few number lines which were made in our maths lesson. We are hoping we don't experience minus temperatures just yet though!
Winning Week! (14.9.18)
4S were the best class at lining up this week! Well done! We now have the pleasure of Rosie in our class for the week who is currently making friends with Jigsaw Jaz. Jogsaw Jaz stays with 4S for our Jigsaw lessons and to help us remember to take turns when speaking.
Call of The Wild! (5.9.18)
To start our Call of The Wild project this half term we enjoyed a rain forest inspired art afternoon. We had lots of fun making rain makers and animal masks as well as trying out new medias such as oil pastels to create a rainforest picture. What a great way to spend our first afternoon back!
