Final Summer Blog- 21.07.22

 

It's the end of the school year! Can I just start by saying how wonderful you have all been this year. There have been so many happy memories from Year 4. Every day, you have all come into school with a fantastic attitude and have worked hard. I’m going to miss you all. I hope that each and every one of you has a lovely summer and a brilliant Year 5 next year. Well done everybody and good luck! 

This Week (01.07.22)

This week, the children have been learning about persuasion in English lessons as well as the different features associated with this. In Maths, the children have started to focus on different types of angles such as acute, obtuse and right angles. 

The children have also started their Design and Technology projects. Here are some photographs for you to enjoy. Have a lovely weekend everybody! 

 

Bournville Trip

Today, the children went to Bournville on a Geography trip. They completed lots of different activities whilst on their trip. These included understanding what they could hear and see whilst at the Bournville Village Green as well as conducting a tally for the amount of traffic that went past.

Science (10.06.22) 

In today's Science lesson, the children focused on 'Living things and their habitats'. As a class, we discussed some of the terminology relating to this topic. The children were then asked to group the animals in their own ways. Some children grouped them according to species, flight and size. Here are some photographs for you all to enjoy.

Jubilee Week.

It has been a fun week for 4S. The children have taken part in a number of Jubilee activities such as plate decorating, a picnic and lots of work in class. Here are some photographs for you all to enjoy. Have a lovely half-term everybody! 

 

Science Lesson- Pitch (Sound) (06.05.22)

 

          What an amazing week it has been! In Science, the children have learnt about pitch. They discovered that a shorter string or note makes a higher pitch sound and that a longer string or note makes a lower pitch sound. We also discussed volume and how this impacts on a sound wave.

29.04.22- String Telephones.

 

        In today’s Science lesson, the children created string telephones. As a class, we discussed how the telephones worked. We explained how the string is a medium and that sound can travel through mediums.

Final Week. (08.04.22)

 

It has been such a busy term but all of you have been brilliant. Whatever you're doing over Easter have fun, stay safe, have a rest and I look forward to seeing you all in the Summer Term. Have a lovely Easter break everybody. 

Science Work

 

In today's Science lesson, the children learnt about how sound travels through vibrations. They conducted a variety of different experiments such as how vibrations can travel across water using a tuning fork and how rice can move up and down on a drum when the drum is hit.

Amazing Week (18.03.22)

 

It has been an amazing week in 4S. This week, the children have focused on Earthquakes. They learnt about the 'Ring of Fire' and how most earthquakes and volcanoes on Earth occur here. They have also learnt about 'Growth' as part of Science Week.

        It has been yet another exciting week in 4S. The children have been learning about the structure of the Earth as well as what an earthquake is?

        The children have also started their new Science topic focussing on Sound.

An Amazing Week (04.03.22)

        It has been an amazing week in 4S this week. The children have got to experience so much. On Wednesday, they participated in a book swap where they were able to select new books in exchange for old books. On Thursday, the children dressed up as different book characters in celebration of World Book Day and on Friday they got to meet an author.

Roman Visitor (11.02.22) 

This week, we had a special visit from a Roman soldier called 'Maximus Minimus'. He spoke about his time on Hadrian's Wall as well as what life was like in the Roman Empire. The children asked lots of questions and recorded all of their answers accurately. Well done everybody. 

What an amazing week (03.02.22)

 

     It has been an amazing week in 4S. The children have been focussing on fractions in Maths. In English, the children have been writing persuasive letters.

     The children have continued to focus on the Romans in History lessons and have specifically concentrated on Roman towns and what these used to include.

     We have also participated in the 'Time to Talk' day which allowed us to discuss mental health. The children were very sensible during these discussions.

Professor McGinty (27.01.22) 

 

On Thursday, the children learnt all about the Romans. They listened to Professor McGinty who explained to them about what life was like in Roman Britain. The children learnt about 'Roundhouses', 'food in Britain' and many other things. It was a really enjoyable experience.

What an exciting week- (21.01.22)

 

     It has been yet another exciting week in 4S. This week, the children have started to learn about division and have been using place value counters to support their knowledge. In English, the children continue to learn about skills for story openers, such as inverted commas, fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases.

     In Science, the children focussed on the differences between solids, liquids and gases. They then sorted different pictures into these categories. The children have also learnt about what the Romans brought to Britain.

The Excitement Continues- 14.01.22

 

        It has been yet another exciting week in 4S. The children have been learning about lots of different things. In Science, we have continued to focus on solids, liquids and gases. The children have participated in an experiment involving raisins and lemonade. They learnt that the raisin (a solid) will float and sink in a cup of lemonade (liquid). This is because of the fact that the bubbles make the raisin lighter. When a bubble bursts, the raisin becomes heavier and sinks. 

        In Art and Design, the children have been producing prints linked to Celtic patterns and in History they continue to learn about the Romans.

07.01.21- What an exciting first week back!

       It has been a great first week back in 4S. The children have been completing lots of different work.      

       In Science, the children have been learning about States of Matter and understanding the difference between solids, liquids and gases. The children have also stated their new History topic which focusses on the Romans and have already learnt so much in such a short space of time.

Final Week! (17.12.21)

        What an exciting final week it has been in 4S! The children have been involved with lots of different things such as making calendars and Christmas cards. They have all worked so hard this term and I would like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Amazing Artwork. (10.12.21)

 

It has been a fantastic week in 4S. In English, the children have been writing Christmas Haikus and in Maths lessons they continue to develop their times tables knowledge. In addition to this, the children have been creating some amazing artwork for display.

What an amazing week. (03.12.21)

     

       It has been yet another amazing week in 4S. In English, the children have finished writing their persuasive texts and in Maths the children continue to develop their multiplication skills.

      In Science, the children have continued to explore electricity. They learnt about conductors and insulators.

Amazing Science (26.11.21)

 

The focus of this week's Science lesson was switches. In small groups, the children made their own switch using card and 2 metal paper fasteners. They then made a circuit with a bulb, cell, wires and their handmade switch. They observed that their switch could open (break) and close (complete) the circuit, making the bulb light up or go off. 

An Amazing Week! (19.11.21)

What an amazing week it has been! In English lessons, the children have focused on Non-Chronological reports. They have worked hard to ensure that all of the correct features have been included within their work. Maths lessons have involved developing multiplication and division skills. The children have also had a go at producing lever and linkage mechanism prototypes in Design and Technology. 

I would also like to say a huge thank you to all of the children for dressing up to support 'Children in Need'. Well done and have a lovely weekend everybody! 

What an amazing week. (05.11.21)

        It has been yet another exciting week in 4S. The children have been learning about length in Maths and in English they have focussed on Non-Chronological reports.  

        In Science, the children are learning about electricity and have learnt the difference between mains and battery powered appliances. In addition to this, the children continue to develop their Ukulele skills.

What an amazing end to the half term! (22.10.21)

 

        It has been an amazing week in 4S! In Maths lessons, the children have been developing their knowledge of subtraction.

        In Geography, the children were able to participate in a Greek food tasting lesson as well as learning about other natural resources available in Greece.

        All that’s left to say is have a fantastic half-term and I can’t wait to see you all soon!

What an exciting week (14.10.21)

 

     It has been yet another exciting week in 4S. The children have been focussing on addition and subtraction in Maths lessons. In English, the children have been learning all of the necessary skills for letter writing.

     The children continue to develop their knowledge of the Ukulele and have been learning a new song. In addition to this, the children have also been learning about the importance of making decisions in Jigsaw.

What an exciting week. (08.10.21)

It has been yet another exciting week in Year 4. The children have been conducting investigations into the impacts of drinks on our teeth, as well as learning about the climate of Greece.

The children have also been focussing on addition and are beginning to understand the concept of exchanging. Furthermore, the children continue to develop their knowledge of the ukulele.

Lots of fun! (01.10.21)

      There have been lots of exciting activities happening in 4S this week. In Maths, the children have been continuing their focus on place value looking at ‘Negative Numbers and Roman Numerals’.  

      In Science lessons, the children have focussed on teeth and are currently investigating which type of drink causes the most damage to an egg shell. The children have also been learning the different string names on the Ukulele.

The Excitement Continues (24.09.21)

 

    It has been yet another exciting week in 4S. The children have continued to focus on place value skills in Maths, specifically looking at ordering and comparing 4-digit numbers. In English, the children have been reinforcing their knowledge of fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases.

What an Amazing Week! (17.09.21)

 

    I can’t believe how fast the second week has gone! This week, the children have been writing a setting description. They have focussed on fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases. In Maths, the children continue to learn place value skills.

    In addition to this, we have sent out spellings. I have attached the spelling list for the entire half term on the blog. Please feel free to have a look. Have a lovely weekend everybody.

Fantastic First Week- 10.09.21

 

It has been a wonderful first week back. The children have worked really hard and made very positive choices. This week, we have learnt about Europe and where it is located within the world. The children have also been learning about place value in Maths and focussing on expanded noun phrases in English.

Welcome Back 4S,

 

I hope that you've all had a fantastic Summer Holiday.  Mrs Heraper, Mrs Sheldrick and I are very excited to see you all next week. Here is some information for you all: -

 

The school day will begin at 8:40am and will end at 3:10pm.

 

Our PE day will be on Thursday. Please ensure that you wear your PE kit on this day to school. P.E. kit should consist of dark (black / grey / blue) joggers, leggings or shorts and a white t-shirt or polo shirt. Foot wear should be trainers that are suitable for outdoor sports. Please make sure you are dressed in the correct kit.
