Spring Term.

A really fantastic and busy Spring Term in 6D. I have seen such growth, progress and friendship blossoming this term and I am super proud of our little 6D team. We had a fantastic residential (which seems a million years ago now!)

We finished our book- Boy in Striped Pyjamas and you could have heard a pin drop as we found out what happened to the main protagonist- Bruno. I have read this book 4 times to different classes and it still brings a tear to my eye!

In History, we finished our topic all about World War 2. We had such fun making evacuation suitcases, gas masks, propaganda posters and in English writing in role as Winston Churchill trying to persuade people to allow evacuees to live in their homes.

In Science, we completed our unit on Living Things and Their Characteristics and we are now able to describe how living things are classified. Take a look at some of our beautifully presented Science work.

In Geography, we have been finding out all about North and South America and comparing and contrasting the two on a double page spread.

As you are aware, SATS are happening in May so we have been working super hard in our Maths and SPAG lessons too. I can’t explain how hard the children have been working in their morning lessons. They surprise me everyday when they still put 100% effort into the afternoons too.

Have an amazing Easter- see you in the Summer term!

Merry Christmas

What a tiring but fantastic half term. Take a look at our pictures of a great last day. It was lovely to watch the children work together in the Christmas concert and then again today playing board games. Please have a lovely and safe Christmas and a very Hoppy New Year.

First half term…

It has been a wonderful half term getting to know the new 6D. I think we’re going to have a wonderful year together.

Our core text this term is ‘Pig Heart Boy’ and the children have been thoroughly enjoying our reading aloud time…so much so that we often read for far too long…oops! It has also been fabulous to see that lots of children have been reading at home and bringing in their diaries for me to check- please keep this up!

We have been reading and analysing discussion texts in our writing and finished the half term writing a balanced argument titled: ‘Are video games good for children?’ Surprisingly, all of the children (although reluctant to give up videos game completely!) agreed that they can be harmful to children and children should be encouraged to only play educational games… I wonder if parents will see this happen this half term?!  ðŸ¤”😆

In art, we have been learning about different painting techniques and studying the artist, Jenifer Tyers. We then used her style to recreate a Harvest scene while singing about Conkers- check out our video- what a lovely afternoon!

I have uploaded some pictures from over the half term and also some examples of the work we’ve been doing. As you can see from the pictures, we definitely deserve a break and lots of sleep!

Have a happy and healthy half term and I will see you all in Autumn 2.
