‘We may speak different languages, have different religions or come from different places but we are all part of one human race.’

Our high-quality foreign languages curriculum at Broadmeadow aims to develop a lifelong love of language-learning and prepares children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and other activities are carried out internationally.

Language learning provides an opening to other cultures and enables children to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.

Through our teaching of a foreign language we aim to:

  • Ensure every child has the opportunity to study French as a foreign language and to gain knowledge of different countries and cultures
  • Give all children a solid basis in learning a foreign language in preparation for future language learning
  • Create a stimulating, interactive and engaging language-learning environment in order to build confidence and sustain enjoyment in the learning of a new language

Progression of Declarative and Procedural Knowledge

Our French curriculum has been designed so that pupil's revisit and build upon prior leaning of both declarative (what we know) and procedural (what we can do) knowledge. Click on the links below to see what this looks like across each year group.

Knowledge Organisers

Knowledge organisers are a summary of the key facts and essential knowledge that pupils will be taught in a particular unit of work. Our knowledge organisers are not a comprehensive and exhaustive list of all that could be known but rather a summary of the knowledge that teaching will focus on. These documents help teachers to think hard about what will be taught, how it will be revisited and how it can be expressed; help children to recognise key learning and return to it often; and help parents/carers to have a really clear understanding of what their child is learning in different areas of the curriculum.
